I've been working on a wedding cake this week. Not due till Monday so I've just been working on the shells that go on it. They wanted realistic looking seashells on a white cake. Cakes are baked and wrapped and in the freezer. I'll fill and crumbcoat them tomorrow and do the buttercream decorating on Sunday. It's due Monday at 11am so I have plenty of time.

My guys are at Lava Beds National Monument with Boy Scouts for the 3 day so no one to miss me when I'm at the kitchen<G>...sadly no one to carry the cake for me either! I'll miss my delivery guy! LOL!

Well, I've been wanting to try a peacock themed cake forever and had a family birthday cake to make, so I went with it! Just finished it and posted the pic. I love how it came out, but that teal color is my favorite color!

I'm working on gumpaste flowers for a wedding cake next weekend. Work a little, let dry, work a little, let dry-they're taking forever!

I know how you feel. The shells were the same way. Especially since they all had to be handpainted and took several different colors in different coats...some I waited till they were dry and some I waited just a bit then blended. Took 3 days!

What kind of flowers??

I'm making orchids and calla lilies. The orchids are ready to be dusted before assembly. The callas have the calyx? on them and are drying. I'm worried about putting the spadix in b/c the practice ones didn't go well. After I hung them to dry, the kept pulling out of the flower.

Good evening from Oz, although it is afternoon for me.
I am working on a wedding cake, It is due Sunday afternoon , I have iced the tiers ready to stack when I get up from my afternoon nap ( I have an illness that makes this a necessity ) I have made all the burgundy roses and leaves , made up my royal to do the stencilling , so it is just assembly job from here.

Dani, I love the peacock cake , I have been trying to talk someone into having one but to no avail yet.

Cat I love colouring things like shells and leaves when you get to blend and mix all the colours together.

Layers are all baked for 2 half-sheets and a 6-8 round. Making grad cakes for church celebration on Sunday. Getting ready to cut grad silhouettes from fondant/gumpaste, using the Wilton template. My goal is to get those cut, and make icing, before bed!

Cheatize...oh, I had that happen a few weeks ago...I got SOOO frustrated with the flowers!

Chelle...sounds like you have it all organized! It's a 3 day holiday over here in the US so I have an extra day before my wedding cake is due. I'm lovin the extra time!

Linda...that sounds like a lot of work. I hate doing silhouettes!

Good Evening friends.. Dani what a beautiful cake. I have a niece who will be celebrating her 16th birthday in July and having the peacock theme. Thanks for sharing can't wait to do something.

This week working on all the flowers for next week. I have been making cakes all week. I have a new customer, a restaraunt, and they require fresh cakes every day. Lucky for me there is no decorating to them.

Next weekend I have 3 parties to work on. We will be busy as a beaver so hoping to enjoy the holdiay off on Monday.

A bride looked at my flickr gallery, emailed me "I see you have what it takes to make a wedding cake." Called me later talking about rice paper cake. I did not know about it. She then said she was coming to see me following day. Never came or called. I later noticed on fb that most cakers in my area have at least one photo of that rice paper feathers cake. So I am going to make one and hopefully take it with me to a wedding happening in hubby's rural home as a gift. Take photos and add to my repertoire. Will be making flowers for end June event rest of weekend. Baking birthday cake due Tuesday on Sunday evening. Happy caking!

Rosech , I think you may have had a lucky escape with that bride , her attitude screams Bridezilla to me.

Well , I have stacked , piped ,stencilled and beribboned my cake . I only have the flowers to place on the cake tomorrow. and it is only 9.30 pm . Cake is due by 5.30 tomorrow afternoon . I love this Sunday wedding instead of Saturday , it has been a lot less pressure getting this cake done.

Sweet Dreams everyone . Have a great Weekend.

I always wonder how a rice paper cake tastes??? I see these rock sugar covered or sanding sugar covered cakes and I know how they feel on the tongue...not good. I wonder what rice paper would be like? Anyone ever tasted one?

I have very little cake work today...most of it is tomorrow since it's not due till Monday. But we are redecorating out patio...or I should say, decorating it for the first time, and I have a ton to do on that.

Hope you all have a great weekend!!

How does it feel to eat it? My biggest issue with sanding sugar is that it feels like sand to eat it! LOL!

And, yes, I think that Bride is one to be avoided.

Ok, just put the wedding cake up in my photos. The MOB called and asked if I could deliver it tomorrow so she could get it to the restaurant tomorrow and not worry about on Monday so I went ahead and finished it.

The Bride wanted a white frosted cake, realistic shells and hot pink coral. She won't see it till Monday but I hope they love it!

Just lovely! I was telling my biz partner last night that I really love it when I get to actually deliver to the wedding and get to see how it's all set up. The one I did this weekend is being held at a friend of theirs restaurant...park wedding first...so they asked me to deliver the cake to their house, which I just got back from, and so I didn't get to see what the reception looked like since it is happening tomorrow morning. They simply loved the cake. The "coral" had turned opaque by this morning and looked even cooler. Oh! And the Bride was there! She really really loved the starfish.

Now the rest of the weekend to myself!

Rice paper is a final covering over buttercream that allows you to make very thin petals or feathers or leaves...etc. Just go to google and search for rice paper cake in the "images" section and you will see an example of one. It looks cool but I'm wondering what it is like to actually eat it.

Well duh.. just looked at that. I just took a class on making flowers with rice paper. Tried to make a peony but was not impressed with my work. Have to work on it a couple more times

I just use frosting sheets for most of that kind of work. Easier to work with. Not as thin and delicate.

Thank you , I was rather proud of it . I love doing the large roses , The comments I got back from the reception was the cake was Awesome and tasted yummy.

Cat , it is nice when you get to see the Bride's face when she first see's the cake.

Ginn, I hadn't thought of using frosting sheets like that.

We did not manage to go to the function because of car problem. Hubby insists on taking it to the couple once the car is fixed. If he cannot take it by Wednesday, we have to eat it. Then I will tell you how it tastes

Looks pretty , Rosech, how did you attach the rice paper?

That would hide a multitude of sins , if you didn't cover your cake well.
