Hi,

I would like to make this dinosaur cake. Any suggestions on what pans to use to bake this shape? Thanks

I made this cake http://cakestreatsmore.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoid=154204033

for my daughter's birthday and used a bundt cake pan. I would maybe use a bundt and then make a square and just sculpt in the extra pieces.

Good luck, that dino cake is super cute!

I would use an 8 inch square pan and stack them as high as you want your dino to be. Then shape them in an L shape and carve out your body. The head and legs I would use RKT.

AHi, I've also been asked to made a dinosaur cake and they've asked for one similar to this shape but in pink and green. I've not made many sculpted cakes (2) so also wondered what size cakes to use, possibly joining the tail on. I will use a chocolate fudge cake but nothing too rich or dense as it's for a toddler's birthday and her little friends. Any help or advice will be gratefully received. Thanks Debs

AI made this Dino cake just a few weeks ago: http://cakecentral.com/g/i/3165176/a/3440226/my-friend-asked-me-to-recreate-a-yellow-dinosaur-cake-she-found-online-i-dont-know-who-the-original-artist-was-but-another-caker-posted-her-rendition-of-it-here-a-few-years-ago-along-with-some-valuable-comments-about-how-she-made-it-since-this/

I actually used two 10x2s for the body. I cut each 10 inch cake in half (right down the middle so there was half on the left and half on the right). I did not level the tops...I used the natural curvature for a rounded belly look, then I filled them and stacked them next to each other (meaning they were cut side down). I used two eight inch cakes to carve the head and I think 1 six inch cake to make the tail. Then I ganached the whole thing and used fondant to start the formation of my Dino's facial features before putting on the final layer of fondant. His legs were made out of Rice Krispie treats.

I took some progress pictures that I will try to post momentarily.

AI love the cake, wonderfully vibrant colours and I wish I had an airbrush, fab effect. Your party table was gorgeous, lucky boy! Thanks for sharing, Debs x

I'm not sure if this is referring to my cake, but if so, I did not airbrush it. I had some trouble with my airbrush machine so I actually just dusted a little orange petal dust on it.

Amazing Tutorial! Thank you.

If this is directed to me for my pitiful little progress pictures, you're welcome. If it refers to Montreal's much more in depth tutorial, please disregard this message. :)
