How does one mix gold paint to the correct consistency?
I have tried using edible gold dust mixed with alcohol/rejuvenator spirit but it dries off really quickly giving a lumpy/grainy finish. Adding more alcohol makes the colour too watered down.
The bottled stuff I bought recently seems to be too thin and makes the painted sugar work look rather shabby! I don't seem to have these issues with other colours (even silver).
Please can someone advise?

Thanks!

Well, it's just a matter of using the right amount of alcoholicon_smile.gif
And mixing up very small amounts at a time....like a Tablespoon, adding a few more drops of alcohol as needed.

Actually, there is no such thing as *edible* gold dust. There is non-toxic but still it is advised it be used only on decorations that are never served for consumption (sp?).

Actually, there is an FDA approved gold dust by Crystal Colors (sugarpaste.com) Makes a gorgeous gold when mixed with Everclear or lemon extract. Makes a beautiful deep, 18K type gold when mixed with Everclear/lemon extract and Amerimist Gold airbrush liquid.

The mixing process trial & error for me. I find that with lemon extract, the product is smoother, but I dislike the smell. With Everclear, I need to do several coats and if I do a dry dust while it's still damp, it's virtually streak free.
