Trying to learn how to make a 3d skull topper with bow for my daughters birthday cake. Should I use a styrfome ball and attachhe fondant ? If so what will help it stick? Also what do you make the bones from ? Any tips/suggestions will be helpful, thanks !

For the skull on my skeleton pirate in my photos, I roughly shaped RKT's around a wooden dowel into a skull. Then I let that dry in a bowl so they wouldn't flatten out. I twisted the dowel occasionally so that it wouldn't get stuck, and once it was dry I removed the dowel. I added fondant around the eyes and jaw, and for the teeth. Then I covered the whole thing in fondant - it doesn't have to be all one piece as long as none of the joints are in the face area. Then I carved out the teeth - the extra fondant in the teeth area really helped me get a good shape. Then I sprayed it with the black and let it set up.

Welcome to the forum! If you don't want a REALISTIC, SCARY skull, then skip this post and go to my post below.

If you have time to order a special skull pan, you can make a 3-D skull cake and place it on top of a round or square, etc. cake as a "topper".

Last Halloween I made 4 different cakes with the Wilton 3-D skull pan. I posted a long thread on Wilton.com with all the things I learned making the skull cakes until I got it perfected. There are a LOT of photos.

Here's the link to the thread:

Here's where you can purchase the 3D Skull Pan (worth EVERY penny!)

You can also use plastic (or other non-edible) skulls. Here is a cake made by my 11 year old nephew for a Cub Scout Halloween cake contest. The skulls are from the dollar store and covered with red piping gel and red frosting mixed together.

Me again. After re-reading your post, I realized you probably don't want a realistic, scary skull, you probably want the Monster High skull logo.

Here's a youtube video with a photo of that skull:
