foam core boards...

When using foam core between layers of a tiered cake do you need to cover them? I have heard different opinions. If you do cover them, with what and how?

One option is to use Glad Press N' Seal plastic wrap...

I haven't actually done this before, but in one of my cake DVD's, Sharon Zambito does.

She lays the plastic out on her counter, sets the foam-core down, then folds the plastic over it, so the top and bottom are both covered in one shot...
Then she presses it down and trims the excess all around the edge.

I also use the Glad press n' seal to cover my foam core boards. It works great!

When I learned about foam core from Colette Peters, there was no discussion about covering it, so I never have--and won't. I don't want any of the covering to come up when the cake is cut.

I do sanitize my boards by wiping them down with vanilla extract (hi alcohol content) and I now also add a miniscule coating of edible soy was (melted in microwave & wiped on with a paper towel). Works great.
