I am at the point in my cake career where I finally get to make my wedding cake. We are having a small reception but I think it would be a crime against decorating to have a small cake. So I am doing a 6,8,10,10,12,14 combination, but the bottom 3 will be dummies. Any suggestions about how to construct this all? Should I use SPS for the 6,8,10 and then dowel the bottom dummies together?

I've only ever done a 3 tier and will be practicing before the big day, but thought I better consult my seasoned bakers before I had a real disaster. Hopefully my mock up will attach (yes the crude scribbles are flowers)

Styrofoam is pretty strong. When i use it, I don't dowel it, I just put one on top of the other. You would need to dowel the 8 and 10 inch real cake.

There is NO need to dowel the styros. Just a big dab of b'cream will hold them together

yep I agree with the others no need to dowel the dummys , I just use some royal to stick them together. ( I am in Australia and we really don't do buttercream here )
