Hi everyone,

I have not yet had a chance to call around to other bakeries (which I plan to do!), but was just asked by a colleague to make a birthday cake for her mum in 1.5 weeks time. It would just be a 2 or 3 layer 20 cm (8-in) round cake, probably with buttercream and maybe some gumpaste decoration. Does anyone have a figure for what they usually charge for something along these lines?

I've downloaded the Excel price templates as I will need to use something like this when I actually do start more for my business, but I need to figure out how to get ingredients in there for 'from scratch' recipes as all that I've downloaded seem to be from a box! If anyone has a template for scratch recipes (listing out eggs, four, butter, sugar, etc.) please let me know if you've posted it or if you would email it to me!

You don't need a template or excel page to figure the prices of your cake. You just need to figure out how much it costs you to make the recipe.

You take that information, add too it all the other supplies you need, factor in your time and labor costs, as well as profit.
