Good afternoon

I am about to try making a stand up people topper for the first time....... this one needs to have the legs showing......... so I am a bit worried about it being top heavy

I do not really have time to play - so before I start is there any tips?

I have bought a people mould - so can get the shape right (I hope) I assume you spray with oil before you mould and I thought I would use Mexican paste - is that the best to use? I assume I need to wire or dowel the legs - but which is better metal or wood?

As for the dress - this needs to blow!!! - So I guess petal paste would be better? But any tips on getting the skirt to look like its blowing in the wind would be much appreciated.

The only help I can offer is whatever you choose to use - wire or dowels extend them about 3" longer so you can push them into the cake to help stableize the figure.
I would probably use sucker sticks.

Hi, i usually use pastialage when making stand up people ,etc. I use thin skewers to go up thru the legs. I build on a piece of styrofoam so as to use the skewers to go down into the styrofoam , like it would go into the cake. Yes, as kakeladi said . extend the skewer, etc. (i make it at least 4 inches into the cake. I let dry on the styrofoam until i need it for the cake. I have a pic of ace of cake with duff,mary alice, ben jeff , as i have told you how i did it. The dress should be made of gumpaste, so you can roll it thinner. As to it blowing, you would place tissue or something on that order to help it look that way and let it dry. Marcela Sanchez has beautiful paste for beautiful dresses. She has a great dvd on a bride and groom. Globalsugarart.com use to sell some of her products. You can google all this and see what i am talking about. Good luck with you project. I make my pastialage(using mercedes) recipe. It works really good.

What is the recipe for pastillage that you referred to? Where can I find it? I'm not familiar with "mercedes".
