I am back!!! It was a very cool evening for my Cub Scout being welcomed into Boy Scouts and getting his Arrow of Light award (highest honor in Cub Scouts and not every boy gets it.)

But, this weekend brings Mother's Day! I am currently working on 4 mini cakes. There are four Mom's in our family...My mom, me, and our two daughters. So each cake will reflect that person. My goal for today was to cover in fondant and do the royal icing trim...tomorrow begins the fondant decorations and hand painting!

What are you guys all up to? I was SO hoping to see a few posts from our regulars but I guess since it IS a holiday weekend we may be light on participants tonight.

I will be here till 11pm PST!

Erin, sounds like one busy weekend! We are throwing a Mom's Brunch so there will be lots of cooking to go with the cakes but it's all worth it to be surrounded by family. And thank you...we are very proud of him and all the work he has done. He's onto Boy Scouts now and determined to make Eagle Scout someday.

Sammie! What kind of flower did you make! I SO remember making my very first rose!

Good evening from Australia, well it is Saturday afternoon and my cake for the week has gone.
I did a tower of three six inch caramel mud cakes stacked then decorated with stripes in pink and white with a big icing bow in pink and black on the top. The lady that ordered it , phoned me as soon as her husband got home with it gushing about how much she loved it.

My BIL is taking us all out for lunch tomorrow for Mother's day so that will be really nice.

The first flower I learned to make was a Freesia , I think I still have it around here somewhere.

Sounds like everyone is having a great weekend playing with new stuff! I'm STILL working on my mini cakes. Got the handpainting done and now am to the flowers that go on them. I should be done by tonight and will post photos next week. I can't wait to see photos of your projects in the next week! They sound great!

And, yes, fantasy flowers count! Sometimes they are the most beautiful of all!

I just uploaded my turtle and giant cupcake cakes to my photo's. I think they turned out cute. My sister and dad loved their cakes. My sister had a hard time cutting into her turtle cake icon_biggrin.gif This was a busy cake month for me I also made the rock climbing cake this month for my husband's birthday.

Oh my gosh, those are so cute! I really really love the turtle! Why was it hard for her to cut into it? Or do you mean "emotionally" hard? Cause I can totally understand that! LOL!

I need to upload my photos of the mini cakes...I worked on BOTH blogs this morning and ran out of steam for here! LOL!

Thanks Cat! I mean "emotionally" icon_biggrin.gif She want's to try to freeze it so she can keep it (silly girl). Maybe I will just replicate a small turtle out of clay that she can keep...lol. I can't wait to see your cakes.

thanks Cat, I love the mini cakes they look like fun to do. I don't have enough people here to have a play like that. Are they a four inch on the base . I like the little cake stands. I am looking for something like them to do a mini for a comp in August. Haven't decided what theme I will do for it yet. I am thinking of Miniature orchids as they are pretty easy to do.

Thank you...they are 3 inch on the bottom/1 inch on top. They get very challenging at that size to ice/fondant/decorate when they are that small.

I love the stands too...I just got them on a trip to Washington at this little curio store. I will be using them from time to time just to showcase some of the cupcakes I make if for nothing else! They were just perfect for these mini cakes.
