Painting directly on cakes and storing in fridge

I have a cake that requires alot of time painting directly on the fondant. If I paint on it and then put it in a box inside the fridge will the paint be affected when I retrieve the cake? Using gel colors thinned with extract.

Any suggestions?

I don't think I would put fondant in the fridge because of moisture. If the fondant get moisture then this too might cause a problem with the fondant and paint. I have never done this so I am not sure but this is my thinking.

if your cake will sweat when you take it out of the fridge then the colour may bead up. prevent the sweating and it will be ok.

don't do it!!! Unless you are absolutely positively sure you can stop condensation. I did it with a colorful leopard print cake I made and put it in the fridge when I pulled it out it sweated and my cake looked like this (didn't really matter though it was my beginning stages and for my sister and I)

OK, well I don't think I am going to chance it. But I do have a little extra cake so I might just do a test so I know for in the future....if I do I'll post the results so you know the outcome. Thank you.

If you leave in a humid area and will get condensation on the cake when you remove it, I would not do it. Some people do live in areas were they don't have to deal with humidity and condensation.

Is there a reason you need to put the cake in the fridge?
