Hi guys!
I have an order for a pregnant belly cake to feed 30 people and im not sure what size pans to use in order to make sure i get the 30 servings needed. I thinking about using the ball shaped pans but dont know how to tell how many servings they are. Does anyone have any experience with this?
Also i am still trying to figure out how much to charge for carved 3D cakes? this is a little is a bit of a challenge for me because as you carve away you loose servings and usually have to start off with a larger size cake than you need in order to achieve the right amount of servings.
I hope that made sense im in a little bit of a hurry!
I would very much apprecitate any tips and insite you guys could give me!
That is a hard one, I also have had that problem. I ended up using a egg shape pan for the belly and for the boobs I had small barbie dome shape pans. They dont serve very many so I ended up doing it on top of a sheet cake. Which worked out great. They ended up with alot more servings but didn't mind. Good luck...
thanks for the tip on the pans i think im going to try those!
How much did you charge for the cake?
I make the Pregnant Belly Cakes using the Wilton Soccer Ball (BELLY) and Baseball (half ball) pans (BOOBS).
.
If I need MORE servings I make the pregnant belly cake atop a sheet cake. Like in the 1st and 2nd link below.
If I need a SMALL belly cake. I just use the Baseball pan for the belly and I have 2 smaller 1/2 ball pans that I bought at a local cake store, for the boobs. See 3rd link.
I usually almost always put a sheet cake under the belly cake.
Hope THIS helps!

I love your cakes! they are so cute!!!!! i will definantly have to put it on top of a sheet cake! and the photo they sent me is of a pregnant belly dressed in a bikini!!! so wish me luck!
GOOD LUCK! & Don't undersell yourself either. I know you worry about the carved away parts of a 3D cake giving you less servings, but you are still having to do MORE work "carving." I struggle w/this as well sometimes, but I always try to make sure I make a respectable hourly amount after all is said and done. You wouldn't want to put in 6 hours of work and realistically only get paid, $5 an hour would you? Have fun w/the bikini belly.
thanks for the advice EdibleCanvas!!! i will definantly remember that! Does anyone have any suggestions on what type of pan to use for the belly?
Use the Wilton Soccer Ball or Baseball, depending on how large you want it to be. Those are the ONLY pans that give you that ROUND look. The Pyrex bowls give it a flat top. I thought I mentioned that above.
I just did my 1st belly cake :) & I gotta say, It was Sooooooo Funnnnnn!!! I ask a friend who has done a few on how she charges & Im so glad I did cause Im always under pricing my cakes, well this time I ask for $75 to do it & she never hesitated at the price!! After doing it I def will ask between $100-$150 next time depending on design & size....
I would like to have this cake made for my daughter. Can you tell me how I can contact someone?
Thanks.
Amy
That person asked their question practically half a year ago...I doubt she still needs anyone.
Melanie or anyone else, if you are in the Boston area, please let me know. I would love to not have to bake a cake for my own shower, depicting my own belly. Please? Anyone? :)
