I live in california & I am considering starting my own business. If the commercial kitchen I am planning on renting from is in city "a", but I only plan on selling my products in city "b", do i need a business license in both cities?

Also, how did you write your business plan? Did you have a partner? Did your local SCORE chapter help? I have a lot of experience in baking, I just have no experience in the business aspect.

If you google search "business plan", you'll find a lot of helpful information.

Here are a few sites to help get you started:
Business Resource Software, Inc. (businessplans.org)
Entrepreneur.com
Palo Alto Software, Inc. (bplans.com)

In most cases you will only need a business license based on your address of record. The bakery I founded was run out of a commercial kitchen in San Jose, but I listed our home in Milpitas as the address of record, so we just needed a Milpitas business license.

For the business plan, bplans.com is a good start, but you will want someone with a business background to help. SCORE is an excellent resource but you may need more help, so I recommend either taking business classes or finding a partner or consultant.

I put together the business plan for our bakery myself...I have an MBA and handled the business side while my wife did the baking and decorating.
