Hi all! Silly question perhaps but when a client orders a wedding cake for so many servings, do you charge them for those servings PLUS the top tier cake that they keep for a year or do you give them the small top tier for free? I can't imagine you give it to them for free....so just wondering how you charge for that.

Thanks!!

I would let them know that the amount of servings they would have served needs to be made up somewhere if they are going to keep it. Just so they are not short.

Charge for the whole thing but make sure they are ordering enough in the rest of the cake to serve everyone without the top.

Around here the top tier is ALWAYS free. I gave the couple a choice. Top tier free now or a gift certificate for a free first anniversary cake (6" round.) Most took the gift cert; few cashed it in.
