First off I'm a hobby baker, I only bake for family and friends. My daughter is turning 7 on Thursday and the cake that she requested will require me to use fondant. I have never worked with fondant before and not sure when I can start making the fondant cut outs. I don't want the fondant to get hard. Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Theresa

I would make them the same day or the day before. If you're not going to use them right away, lay them out flat (and not stacked, of course!) in a zip-top plastic bag. They will still be soft and pliable the next day. Any longer than that and they may start to dry out, even inside the bag. Good luck with your cake. I'm sure you'll find fondant is great fun to work with and your daughter will be thrilled with her cake!
