How tall?

How tall is your cake??? What size of pans do you use? I use 3 inch deep but I still think they are not tall enough? Am i crazy???


And also, waht do you mean by layers?? Sorry about my english icon_biggrin.gif. i just want to understand: so layers are the numbers of filling??? let say, cake filling cake filling cake... are 2 layers???

A layer is typically 2" tall. Two 2" layers make a layer cake or a tier.

I bake two pans for each tier. Example: two 8" rounds which I then level each to 2" high, then tort (make a horizontal cut through the middle) so that I end up with four 1" rounds. I then fill between each layer so that I have four layers of cake and three layers of filling. This gives me a 4 1/2-5" tall tier, depending on how much filling I use. Before I bought my awesome Agbay Deluxe leveler I didn't tort my layers so I had two layers of cake with one layer of filling in between. The Agbay has two blades so it levels and torts with just one cut.
