First of all, I've not been on here all that often for a couple of months or so (suddenly I have a lot less free time now I'm back on...) so what happened to the cake ideas forum section?

Anyway, I'm making a cake next week for someone I know but not a friend. Its for her daughters 12th birthday, the girl wanted an ipad but her mum cant afford one. She wants me to make her a cake, Its going to be an 8 inch cake, the only suggestions I have are something to do with her phone (a blackberry) or an ipod or an ipad. She suggested maybe a plain cake with models of those things on top. My problem is, I hate the idea. I think its going to look boring and rubbish... Any suggestions on what I could do or how I can put those things on an 8 inch cake and still make it look great for a 12 year old? I'm totally stuck. She is having a big party so lots of people are going to see it so I want it to look good!

How about a purse with stuff (jewellery, makeup) spilling out and the I-pad peeking out of a pocket?
A small knapsack of books again with the i-pad peeking out?

good idea arlenej, i dont know your skill level, so if a purse is too much work or something, you could make the cake itself an ipad/her phone and have fun with the applications, maybe put a picture of her on the background (edible image) and popular apps, or like an incoming message saying happy birthday?!

While I love the idea of a purse or a bag or present box(es) with an Ipad sticking out of it, I feel bad for the 12year old who is going to get her hopes up that this means she's really getting one! If she has a Blackberry, make that and a fun case for that , maybe a to-do list on the screen, "invite friends, buy party outfit, eat cake, have fun, xoxo" or something like that. Good luck!

The Designer Cake Company has an amazing tutorial on iPhone apps which you could apply to the iPad design. I'm thinking that this cake probably cost as much as an iPad, though! Good luck!
