I have to do a wedding cake with a topper of the groom fishing and the bride is waving. My idea was to do some oval tiers offset and make a dock with the groom on it (he proposed on a dock)and blue frosting topped with piping gel under the dock and down the cake, then do a another 1-2 tiers with a space between with a lake/river between the two, this other cake would be like a river/lake front with a beach and the bride waving at the groom. My main problem is that I can't think of how to make it flow. I think I should cover the cake with fondant "rocks" with some grass growing in between and maybe a few trees, like palmetto trees (I'm in Charleston SC).

Can anyone help me get this in my head a little better? I am just not very confidant with the design yet. Wedding is for 250-300 and the base will be covered in cake so I don't think I will have to many issues with servings.

Hello Jenise,

I think your idea sounds great! Have you sketched it out? I always sketch my more complex cake designs and color them. It really helps me envision what the actual product will look like when done.

You probably don't realize it but on the end of the fishing line is the wedding band and she's reaching for it. I really don't like this topper, puts the bride in a desperate light. But you have to do what the couple wants. Wish I knew how to post a picture - I'd show it to you.

Denise, I didn't know that. I've never seen it in person, and usually don't like this kind of topper, but the bride is like one of my daughters, she grew up with my kids. Anyway, this has been hard for me.

I can't draw very well, so it has been really tough to get it on paper and get it all settled in my head, was going to do a practice cake to see how it turned out, but I have now run out of time. I forgot to add that they also want a row boat with the last name "Pittsinger" on it. I told them with that long name I might have to just name the boat "The Pitts".

If anyone has any other ideas, they will be most welcome!

Do the dock like you said, but put the bride in the row boat one tier down.
