Does anyone have any good ideas for the kind of cake I can make for a lawyer? He's been practicing for years and it's his birthday. Thanks.

The law scale symbol?
Or something more specific to the type of law he specializes in.

1. Nothing that could get you sued!

2. I would suggest that you visit the nearest law library, and get a look at some law books (If you explain what it's about, perhaps the librarian can direct you more specifically). Then do a cake with two or three slightly skewed rectangular tiers, each decorated as a law book, perhaps with a figure of Justice on top.

Many years ago, I had a disagreement with my city's government on whether multiple DBAs registered by the same sole proprietor (myself) required separate city business licenses. I spent a fair amount of time looking up precedents, presented my case to the City Council and the City attorney, and got a call back from the City Attorney, a few days later, with one question: "How many sets of books do you have?" My answer, of course, was "One." "Then you're one business."

I saw a cake somewhere for a lawyer that was a stack of law books with a gavel ontop, it was pretty cool.

The snake! haha. But seriously... I like the stacked book idea. The gavel means judge specifically (justice indirectly!). If this is a friend I suggest making the book titles something that might have meaning to you all. For instance, "How to Sue Your Neighbor" or "Torts Tarts and How to Tell The Difference". I would make it a combination of serious and fun! Good Luck!

Hmm. One of the murals inside the Coit Tower ("Lawyers Doing Research") depicts several shelves of law books, some of which have some amusing titles, like "Law of Averages," "Law of Diminishing Returns," "Laws of Perspective," &c.
