I have my 1st 6tier cake this weekend. The biggest order yet! (I've done 4tier but not 6) I will be delivering this cake. My question- should I assemble the whole cake @ location?? My idea is to take it in 2 parts.. 3stacked tiers each and finish stacking there.OR should I stack bottom 3 and then at location stack the top 3. AND Second... support system, what is best?! The tiers are 14"square,12"round,10,9,8&6rounds. Thanks so much in advance
If you can assemble the bottom 3 layers together, and then assemble the top 3 layers together and then put the 2 sets together on site that would be the way I would go, tiered cakes are really heavy, unless you have some really strong help to carry the cake in already assembled. And the cake design plays a part in it also, can you assemble it half way then finish onsite?? And the SPS system is the way to go for supports! NO OTHER CHOICE EVEN COMES CLOSE!!!
Thank you Jody130 ...that was my thought exactly. But just wanted to get some input from all you pros
I would stack the bottom 3 before delivery definitely! But I would be nervous that stacking the top 3 tiers then lifting them to put on the other tiers would be too heavy. I would stack the top 3 separately when I get there if I were you.
Im no pro, but i agree with Tracey2528. I would just stack the bottom 3 and then assemble the rest once there.
I agree with the last two posters (stack three together and keep the top three separated and then stack on site). Just delivered a 4 tier stacked this weekend and it was all my husband and I could carry.
I'm with Tracy! You can have your dowels in place and stuff but I have a hard time stacking more than one tier at a time. You just can't manhandle it in the same way, not to mention the weight and height.
