I am starting to get more cake business and are having trouble knowing how much to charge. I recently did this cake as seen in the picture as a gift for someone retiring in the military. My cost involved was $60 oop. I had a 12" square cake, 9 " round cake and a 9x13" cake cut to the shield. I did this to feed about 100 people for regular slices, not wedding slices. My question is how much do you think you would expect to pay for something like this. I probably had about 20 hours or a few more all together put into this. It's easy for me to find a base price for a cake but when I start adding due to detail I find it hard to decide on a price. Any info regarding how you might price depending on time and detail put into the cake would be great!
I would charge $350 based on what you said, not everyone will agree with me, but that's what I would think is fair.
My price on this would be $410: 9" round, 12" square and 9" X 13" sheet = 154 servings X $2.50 plus $25 for decorations. And I'm on the low side.
I came up with 156 servings, but close enough.
156 x $4 for fondant = $624 + $20 equipment fee and probably another $40 for the extra decos = $684. Plus $50 if I had to deliver it.
what size pieces are you using to come up with 150+ if you don't mind me asking?
According to the Wilton serving chart using the 1" x 2" x 4" serving (typically the standard), 9" round = 32 servings, 12" square = 72 servings, 9" x 13" sheet = 50 servings - total of 154.
If you charge by the serving, you have to use some standard measurement and Wilton's is usually the accepted one. I believe Earlene's chart uses slightly larger measurements and there are others out there.
