Multi Tiered cake ?

Hi all,
I am writing to inquire about the multi layered tiered cake. I would like to bake multi tiered cake for my Son's Graduation Party that should feed 60 people.
I am looking for you advice on what size of pans should I use to achieve four layered of tiered cake, with the top layer being a Graduation cap. Also, How much butter cream, and fondont should I use?
Just let you know I am new to the cake world.......
Is there particular multi tiered cake pan set that I should consider on?

Good for you for wanting to make your sons grad cake. Since you are new to caking, you could make it easier on yourself and use a stand something like this http://www.target.com/p/Weave-Room-3-Tier-Rotating-Buffet/-/A-11678217 or this http://www.wilton.com/store/site/product.cfm?id=53DB6018-423B-522D-F3485F050603680D&fid=53DB6028-423B-522D-FBD0DB93D4F0D688
There are a lot of stands similar to these that would make for a very nice presentation yet would avoid the steep learning curve of stacking cakes. Your could just make your cakes, put them on plates that fit the stands, add your grad cap on the top tier and you are done. No worries about support systems.

i think if you do a 12inch 10 inch 8 inch then a 6inch and make that into the graduation cap it would look like. it will feed more than sixty people though so there will be left overs! Make sure you secure the cake tiers though because my first cake shifted : / Good Luck!

A 6,8,10,12 will give you 130 servings of the standard 1 by 2 by 4 inch (or the height of your layers) of cake.

60 servings is pretty much a two tier cake.
