So I am making two 2-tiered cakes for a bridal shower. The theme is "Sweet & Spicy" so I am going to make a "sweet" (white with raspberry and lemon filling) cake and a "spicy" (dbl chocolate with spicy dark choc ganache filling) cake. The maid of honor has requested that I do 2 separate 2-tiered cakes.

So my question is - if each person will be getting a piece of BOTH cakes, and there will be 60 guests, what sizes should my cakes be? What size should each serving of cake be if there will be two slices per plate?!

Any advice would be soooo appreciated!!

Thank-you!

Really? Each person, women at that, right BEFORE needing to squeeze into pretty dresses for a wedding, are going to eat TWO slices of cake? Yeah right.....icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

I work from a chart I made up with every possible combination of tiers, and it says a 7-11 round would be 60. Awfully squatty looking. I would do a 4-7-10 for 55.

First-- your flavor combos sound amazing! yum!!---

I just made a baby shower cake for today, I used a 10 in square and an 8 inch round- plain flavors compared to what you will be doing (ha)- there were 80 people at the shower and we def had enough- I made I think it was 18 cupcakes the morning of because I was afraid there would not be enough- but the cupcakes went home with the mom-to-be.

And I think the other poster (sorry- I didn't write your usernames dowm-ugh)- is right- there is no way everyone will eat 2 pieces each- but...I hope you are charging per slice and if the customer is willing to pay double- better for you-

Hi,
Thanks for the replies. Actually, I was thinking that each slice of cake would be a half serving - would that be too tiny?

I was thinking of doing a 9-6 for both. I know they will look a little squatty, but the idea is to place each of them on two different cake pedestals of differing heights, to be part of a yummy sweet table.

I'm just concerned that the cake slices will be so small that the guests won't really get to TASTE the differences in both cakes.... you think?

These cakes are for a dear friend, so while I am charging a bit, it's not going to be the full price. Also, might I add, I've just started with this "cake business" of mine... I'm an amateur!

I would do 6" - 8", but make them 3 layers. Each cake will give you 36 full servings so if you halve them (which you could with 3 layers) you should have plenty and a half-serving won't be too tiny.

Thanks for your input, jgifford - I think I will do exactly as you've mentioned! And just for reference, I'm posting a pic of the kind of look the MOH is going for. I just hope my cakes look good!!!

Thanks again!
LL
