color matching disclaimer

I am looking to put a disclaimer on our order forms in regards to color matching. Something to the effect of "we will try our best to match colors but due to the nature of ...(I don't know how to word this part) there may be some color variations". Does anyone have something similar on their order forms? Sometimes customers pick out a color from our list (color chart) of gel food colors we offer and then when they pick it up they say, oh, I thought the color would be different....

I got this from Doug:

Replication of color:

Due to the nature of the medium, exact color matches cannot and will not be guaranteed. If a certain color is desired, the client will need to provide a 2x2 inch swatch of solid color to the decorator when the order is placed. Red Dragon Cakes, ltd will come as close as possible using the specified medium. __________________initials

You also may want to consider adding something about lighting and photography. The lighting can make colors look different and sometimes colors photograph wierd. On my wedding cake (this was before I started decorating) I had purple flowers but in the photos they look blue.

I have this on my site: If a swatch of your color(s) is provided, we will do our best to match your sample. Please keep in mind that not all colors will look the same when done in frosting vs. a satin
material swatch.

That's a good point PennieK. I had a large wedding once that the owner of a hall said the bride was looking for $ back because the frosting roses on her cake were pink, not peach. She didn't bring this up until well after the wedding when she received the photographer's proofs. I went in to speak with her and saw the picture, my first question was if the cake flowers were pink, then so were the napkins! Case closed, the owner herself had ordered the peach napkins & was there that day helping to set up the reception - in the picture they indeed looked pink (hall lighting or photographer's flash perhaps?). I have also seen purple look black in photos

Yes! You will need to provide swatches/photos/samples for us to get a truly accurate representation. We will make every possible effort to translate your cake dreams into reality and are confident that we can turn out a product that you will be delighted with but please bear in mind that printer inks and couture fashion do not always translate exactly into sugar form, and precise matches are sometimes impossible.
