I have been asked to do a class or classes on caking/ fondant cakes/ cake pops etc... for a local crafts store in my area. They said I could do whatever I wanted regarding what to make and how to display etc... But were very excited with the fondant part of it. And as we know it's not something you can just do not prepare in an hour.
The Craft store will provide the space and would advertise for me on the classes, coiuld be a good opportunity for me to get my name out there more, I am not worried regarding teaching whatever and the crafts place has a license for food in their kitchen.

My question is ,if anyone had any ideas on teaching something that I could incorporate cake/cupcakes/cake pops and fondant (in some manor) that would be easy for most! I am a detailed person so I did not want to overwelm anyone on details and to keep it simple enough for everyone to enjoy. Does anyone have any ideas? I wanted to be able to let them take home there work and possibly some recipes to make the product, just unsure how to kick it off, can you help? Thanks for you help.

Might want to incorporate items from the Craft store so the store can make sales and make a profit.

I would start with the basics: how to prepare, fill and pipe with a piping bag, what the different tips can be used for, how to make basic borders and simple flowers, etc. As for fondant, teach them how to knead it to the right consistency, how to color it, definitely how to cover a cake with it, then some basic fondant/gum paste flowers. I don't do cake pops, can't help you there! But most people want the basics and maybe they'll let you do an advanced class, where you teach them how to do figures and make more complicated flowers, etc. I took the Wilton classes for the basics and that gave me the confidence to learn more on my own through youtube and Cake Central, etc.
Good luck! Just sound confident and have fun!

Hello, I've been ask to teach classes before and haven't due to time. However, I have thought about how to approach classes. First, I beleive I would check out any baking books in the store that would have the basic utensils you would need in order to bake and decorate cakes. I would recommend the book. Next, you could video yourself in a step by step movie clip accomplishing a specific skill. If you don't like that idea why not researching some You Tube videos that you would recommend as tutorials. There are also great instructional videos out there. I would prepare pamphlets that coincide with your instruction. I think I would narrow down the focus of my class topic and try to cover a skill completely instead of touching on several skills without a thorough understanding. These are my suggestions. Hope it helps. Joni
