How Do I Tier A Cake Using Champagne Glasses

Hi guys!
I have seen some great pictures with champagne glasses used in between the tiers, and read a couple of tutorials.

But, I need to know it myself icon_smile.gif

I am making a 2 tier cake, my inspiration is the one below, and I love the glass ornament in between.

i am thinking about going to the dollar store and getting one, but how do I get it on there?

the cake below is fondant, so I am assuming there is a plastic separator plate in there somewhere,but my cake is all cream. Also, I dont want an obvious plate showing through...i know I can cover it up with flowers and all, but anyone have any subtle ideas?

any suggestions?

If your cake is all buttercream, you can ice or pipe over the separator plate.

Alternatively, you could use a small cake circle with supports but it would be more stable on a larger plate with the weight more evenly distributed.

if i use the separator plate underneath the cream, I would have to reapply the buttercream before the cake is served...I was thinking too along those lines too...

Not necessarily... you can give it a first coat, position the plate (with waxed paper stuck to the bottom), and ice over with a second coat or just pipe a design completely over the plastic if it isn't required to be smoothed. It's not very likely to lose the buttercream surface with the waxed paper barrier, but if more buttercream is desired, it's easy enough for the server to scrape the plate's top surface to plop the additional icing on the cake.

The SPS system has clear plates. D'you want only the 1 glass in the middle or would 4 or 5 be better? Use the SPS system, glue the bottom of the glass/es to the top of the lower seperator plate, and the top of the glass/es to the bottom of the upper separator plate.

I used a white separator plate ...the circle was evident, but it didnt look bad. Thanks for all that helped.
