hi there i'm a newbie on here and a self taught cake decorator and would be most appreciative if there was anyone who could give me any tips on how i could make a full figured mickey mouse sitting on top of a cake, as my little nephew is getting christened and he adores mickey mouse, i didn't want to make it purely from fondant as i want it to be edible, and not too heavy ontop of the cake, so i was toying with the idea of either carving cake or doing it from rice krispie treats???? help!!!! thank you so much
i will add a picture of the cake i am going to copy but it won't be minnie mouse it will be mickey and in blue thank u x

Check out Mayen or Aine2 on Youtube for making fondant figures. Hopefully you have enough time to practice. I would usually use gumpasate though, for something that size. And still dowel it

My first thought is rice krispy treats if you want it edible.

Rice Krispie treats, covered with melted chocolate, smoothed, covered with fondant. To suppor the weight of the figurine.... figure out where you want it positioned on the cake, mark the spot, and then add bubble draws or dowels into the cake under the figurine to support it. To make it really stable, make and harden/dry a decorative circle or shape to fit under the figurine. Then position this on the cake with THREE dowels or bubble straws to support it. Fasten this down with royal icing or melted chocolate and then do the same for the figuine on the decorative circle/shape. A heavy fondant figure sitting directly on fondant will sink into the fondant and probably tip over.

thank you everyone for your help and yes ycknits thats what i was worried about it sinking and falling as it will be too heavy, so thank you so much for your helpful information i will be doing exactly that! i am glad i joined here u have been so so helpful thank u xxx icon_biggrin.gif
