I have a custom order for a 2 tiered 12 and 8 inch 40th birthday cake..She requested that I add watches..yes... wrist watches and socks (like those crazy striped ones dechamp brand)as those are her husbands 2 favorite things....

So I made 5-6 gumpaste watches and a bunch of socks I plan to paint...What else can I add as I have visions of this being pretty boring...I need to spice it up...

Any pics or suggestions??

Thanks Laurel thumbs_up.gif

My first thought was to put some of the socks hanging from a washing line maybe? Not terribly exciting, but it may add a little interest?

are your watches flat or shaped? i would make shaped watches (like they are going around the wrist) and then place this on top of a small cake cusion that's painted in maybe gold or whatever colour that brand of watch uses. I would use the main one right on top and put the others at strategic places on the cake like a jewellery display.

As for the socks I would maybe have them sticking out of the cake as if they are pushing their way through the inside of the cake out with them hanging out like drapes do.
The manner of placement of these objects is what would then make it interesting.
Hope this helps, and that it makes sense!

If you are covering the cakes in fondant you might consider doing a marble pattern with fondant with some of the colors you are using on the socks and watches to tie it all together.

Watches specifically? Or time.... Could the space between where the top layer and the bottom layer be painted or etched to represent a clock? In other words, the top edge of the 12 inch could either have roman or Arabic numerals, or some other representation of time. Round just lends itself to a clock face to me.

As far as the socks... I would have to inquire more of the client as to how I can tie them in creatively.
