A customer has ordered a strawberry cake which I've never made before. So tonight I thought I'd do a test run to try the cake before making the one for the customer. The recipe contained strawberry jello and I think it has given the cake a weird after taste. I don't like the recipe.

Does anyone have a good strawberry cake recipe they'd like to share with me that does not contain jello? I bake from scratch so I don't want to use a box mix.

This is one I have had in my files to try for some time now. I haven't made it but it looks good. If I were to try this, I would purchase the pure strawberry extract from Olive Nation (not the artificial stuff from McCormick) and add about two teaspoons to the recipe since fresh or frozen strawberries don't have a very strong flavor once baked.

I use the white cake from The Cake Bible, and use pureed strawberries in place of the milk. I add some extract I get from Silver Cloud estates. I use frozen strawberries that I thaw and puree in the blender.

Look up "Summer's Scratch Strawberry Cake " on CC. It's delicious! I like it better after it's been sitting for a day or two. It tastes even more like strawbberies! But delicious eirher way. It has great reviews

Not especially relevant, given that the OP wanted a scratch recipe for a (presumably) paying customer, but I've developed a fairly successful strawberry marble cake recipe based on the Duncan Hines white cake mix. The whole cake contains some strawberry extract, and the contrast batter contains seedless strawberry jam (enough to have an effect on the batter chemistry, but not enough to cause an actual problem), additional strawberry extract, and a bit of red food coloring (since strawberry jam by itself is a tad too orange in color).

There's also both extract and jam in the frosting.
