Need a Moist Red Velvet Recipe

I am looking for a nice moist Red Velvet Recipe.

I usually use Elissa Straus Recipe and it is not bad. I have tried Buddy's and I found it dry and I disliked Martha Stewarts.

So any suggestions you may have would be great. This is for tiered Cakes

I use Paula Deen's RV cupcake recipe and add 1/2 cup sour cream....its dee-lish and moist. I usually add sour cream to all my recipes even if it doesn't call for it! Good luck!

I also wanted to add that I mix my red food coloring in with the sour cream first, before I stir into to batter. I used to have a problem with "streaks" in the cake batter with other recipes because the food coloring wasn't incorporated well enough. I did experiment and found that was the best way to resolve the problem!

I have tried many red velvet scratch recipes and find they are never moist enough. I tried Red Velvet re-mix and have never looked back. It is so moist and one of my most requested cakes. Here's the link:

i made cakeman red velvet. YUMMY. then my sister in law brought some red velvet cupcakes to a function and i thought. "oh no she found out what my "secret" recipe was" icon_sad.gif they were so yummy and they happened to be by paula deen. Paula and red man recipe varies, where cakeman uses oil , paula uses butter. one ingredient different. paula has a special flour but my sis in law used regular ap flour. do think i am gonna switch to paulas for my go to recipe.

How moist do you need it? I have used both the Martha Stewart recipe and Cakeman's and have to scale back the oil in both recipes. Perhaps you are overbaking...

Here's the one I use -- it's now one of my most requested cakes! It's by MacsMom.


Red Velvet Cake - MacsMom *If you don't have 100 mouths to feed, lol, just use 1 box white and measure out 1/2 of the chocolate cake mix, and obviously use half of all the other ingredients.
2 boxes white cake mix
1 box dark chocolate cake mix
2 pkg chocolate pudding
2 teaspoons salt
3 c flour
3 c sugar
3 c sour cream
3 cups vanilla coffee creamer
1 cup water
1/3 c oil
9 eggs
2 tablespoons butter flavoring
2 (1oz) jars Wilton red-red
