Hello,

I am new to this forum and pretty new to cake making. My sister in law graciously let me practice my cake skills and make a cake for her shower. I may have over promised here and offered a cake I don't have a tried recipe for. I'm trying to make a marble cake but I have not been successful. I tried just a vanilla cake and adding chocolate to it and that did not work. I tried a marble recipe I recently found and the chocolate and vanilla did not cook at the same time so the vanilla burnt while the chocolate was under cooked. Does anyone please have a recipe they have tried and works? I've read a lot of posts on here that says just mix a while cake and a chocolate cake, but that didn't really work for me. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Thank you!

A lot of times I will make the WASC cake and take about 3/4 cup of batter out at the end and mix some cocoa powder into it. Not a lot just enough to make it chocolate, otherwise it will get too thick. Spoon it into the cake here it here and there, just run your spoon through the batter to mix the chocolate batter in. Bake at 325 and check it at the time it should be done. It will probably need more time but, keep checking every 3 min or so to see if it has completed baking. Good luck thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif

Thanks so much for your reply! I've heard of using wasc cake but I really dont like box mixes. After your reply I read some reviews and everybody seems to absolutely love it. I think I'll give it a try! Do you think mixing the cocoa powder in some of the batter is better then making a wasc chocolate variation and mixing them?? Can you tell it's made with boxed mix??

I bake from scratch also and use the WASC all the time. I love the texture and the taste and I don't always use Almond as the flavoring. I think with adding the extra flour and sugar it does not taste like a box mix nor does it have the texture of one.
Make your cake and take some batter out and mix the cocoa in, if you made another cake of chocolate it would be too much. Just take some of the batter and do it that way.

Hope this helps you out and let us know how it turned out.

Martha Stewart has a nice marble cake recipe. I have the Wedding Cake book and saw it first there, but it's posted on her site too.

Thanks Patty,

I actually tried the Martha Stewart recipe first. I love her versatile vanilla cake! I thought since I'm doing a tiered cake, her wedding marble cake would be perfect. I messed it up terrible. icon_redface.gif I tried to just make a small cake to test it. Somewhere along the lines I confused the measurements and it just came out horrible. The chocolate didn't mix well and it just tasted like cocoa powder. The chocolate and the vanilla both cooked at different speeds. I should have just tried again but I decided to see what else was out there. I'm sure it's tasty if it's done right! Thanks for the suggestion.

Cake Grandma,

Which WASC recipe do you suggest? I see there is the original one posted by kakeladie that does not include oil and there is the another one that includes oil. Thanks for your help!

I use the one with oil but never having tried the other one I can not comment on it. Also be sure to bake at 325 for what ever time it takes to bake completely, help to not have a hump in the middle. Buy the carton of egg whites and if you are doubling the recipe the 16 oz size is large enough.
