Trying to do a cake for my niece and the fondant keeps tearing. I am using satin ice so now what? If I take it off can I roll out same piece or do I need to use another bunch? I made a practice one last week and it was fine.
Did you work any shortening into it? That could cause a lot of tearing with Satin Ice. Try working some cornstarch into it to dry it up a bit first if that's possibly what happened. If that's not the case, what did you use to roll it out? Did you drape it right away? Did you knead it well by hand or with a dough hook first?
If you roll it too thin, or are too slow with smoothing, that could cause tearing as well.

Ditto to the above. Watch this excellent video by Sweetwise Inc. If you don't have The Mat, don't worry, just fast forward to 11 minutes into the video and do exactly what she teaches and you should be ok.
Her directions on how to rub, smooth, and fluff the skirt will have good results. Also, never forget that it takes PRACTICE to get fondant on perfectly every time.
