Specialized Pastry Utensils Shops in Europe

Hey you guys!

I'll be traveling to Europe (France, Germany, Switzerland) in a month or so and would like tips on shops to buy Pastry utensils and decorating stuff!
I'll be in Paris, Berlin and Zürich, mainly.

I'm looking for chocolate transfers, chocolate and cake molds, and any kind of novelty in the Pastry/Baking department.

Exit the metro at the Les Halles stop. Go directly across the street and enter the most wonderful store I have every found...Enjoy!

This is one of the most fabulous stores I have ever been in. It's one of the oldest cooking/cookware stores in Paris. I probably spent two hours in this place:

There is so much stuff packed into this store that I'm sure there are several fire code violations. There were times I had to really suck it in to get through some of the aisles. GO THERE, but pack a suitcase in your suitcase for what you will buy. I'm not even joking.

That's the one...could not remember the name...we ended up paying for extra weight to get my toys home. Good thing my husband was on government travel with all that metal!!

Forget Germany and Berlin - we are aeons behind on any cool cake stuff. What we have we import from the US or the UK... icon_sad.gif

Pati...you don't mention what department (or even what country) of the government your husband is in, I am just assuming it is the good old USA.
I am glad you are able to accompany him to nice places like Europe and only hope that your expenses are on your dime and not mine.
And what is so funny/happy about all your purchase overages being paid for by the taxpayers?
Of course this is all IMO. icon_biggrin.gif

When I read junebuggey's post, I noticed that she said they paid extra weight to get the "toys" home. I believed that the comment about her husband being on government travel meant that they possibly took a military flight rather than having to go through the metal detectors at a regular airport.

Pastry supplies:
I don't have a particular name of a place, but I've roamed around Europe and picked up some things, sometimes in hardward stores, department stores, thrift shops, grocery stores, etc. I was hunting for blue utensils and gadgets (my kitchen is blue and white) as they were extremely hard to find in the US at the time, I think there are more in the US now, but not lots. Now, every time I use my blue-handled tool that you run around the pie before you bake it that crimps pie crust and at the same time cuts of the excess it reminds me of London. icon_smile.gif

Hey there!

Thanks everyone for all the advice!
I'm familiar with Dehillerin, it really is an amazing shop.
But because I'm a Pastry Chef I'm looking into more specific stuff, like they sell at Mora (also in Paris, AWESOME shop for the one who enjoys pastry tools. Expensive, though...)

It's a pity some people just HAVE to turn a little detail in a comment into a stupid "politically correct" war. Shame on you!

Wow, just wow. thumbsdown.gif I was speechless for a minute.
My husband is a Captain in the Navy with 27 years under his belt. What military people have to deal with is probably more than you will ever have to deal with in your life. The moving, the rules, regulations, at times it seems like they own you , etc. Oh, and having to go to war or the possibility of it. Don't forget that they defend the country you are living in and your right to freedom! I could go on and on, but I will quit. Your comment was so totally wrong and tasteless.
I have traveled all over the world with hubby, They took care of his flight (work related) and I paid for mine. They paid for his hotel and I stayed with him at no additional cost.
If she was able to get in a few extra pounds, I wouldn't care if it was on my dime. Most military people are not paid enough for what they do in my opinion.

Ok, I am stopping now. I might say something that I would NOT regret later, but might upset some others.

TrueBlue, thanks for your hubby's service and for everything you had to deal with being married to the military.


On a side note, does anyone know of any good cake stores going from London up to Glasgow? I will be making this trip later in the year. I will probably be there for a month or so.

Oh, and minicuppie, don't worry, it won't be on your dime. Hubby is also a pilot for American Airlines.
