I have been asked for a stargate sg1 cake, the actual gate, I've seen lots but wondered if I would be able to make it standing up instead of lying flat or is that a ridiculous idea for a 10 inch round cake?
this is the cake: http://foreverdyingbrightly.com/blog/wp-content/gallery/lols/funny-food-photos-stargate-cake.jpg
but standing on its side, if I could do it, how would I support it??

Maybe Alice can help you with that.
make a base like 2 simple "triangle" ramps, put side by side, the tall ends facing out, can you picture it??
yes I can picture that sandyvrc! I'd be worried about it falling over one way or the other though...lol.
And that cake is beautiful! I dont think the actualy round gate is cake though, and unfortunately I dont have an airbrush to make that look. Hmm, definitely something I need to invest in! I'm thinking of maybe suggesting a different kind of cake so I can make the standy uppy gate from gumpaste or something instead? I cant see it holding up really. I'm disappointed in myself :eyeroll:

the only way i imagine it not falling is making it thick, well the base can be big and be the actual cake, and you could use something like a cake dummy for the top?
an option could be make the cake laying down and make the stargate out of rice crispies standing up like you want it. not as heavy and dowels should hold it right up.
