Duncan Hines Frosting Creations?

I was thinking of trying a packet of the white chocolate raspberry in my Swiss Meringue Buttercream. I'm not sure why .... it is probably gross, but they sure make it look like it will taste good. Has anyone tried these? I should probably just stick with melted white chocolate and raspberry preserves, but the little packet looks easy.

I picked up a couple of the flavor packets to try in my bc recipe, but haven't yet. I would like to know if anyone has tried them.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

When I saw that in the supermarket I was curious so I looked at the packages. The ingredients are almost 100% artificial!! I prefer to bake from scratch, so wouldn't use something like this on a cake, but I agree that the idea of an easy packet is tempting. But if you're going to the trouble of making delicious SMBC, I can't imagine you'd want to put that packet of chemicals in there too. And I bet it would never taste as good as your real white chocolate and raspberry frosting. I guess the old saying is right: if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

My son wanted mint frosting on his bday cake so I bought one of the mint packets and added it to my buttercream frosting recipe and while I am not a mint fan it came out fantastic. I tried to estimate the amount of frosting that I mixed it with so it was in line with the actual can they sell for you to add this to, its about one and a half - two cups I think. This is what I went by and it flavored the homemade buttercream really well. He loved it too. I havent tried any of the other kinds so dont know how those ones are but I was impressed. It was cheaper then buying mint flavoring which costs over $5, but the little packets are $0.99.

Thank God I did a little experiment before I ruined my yummy SMBC. I pulled out about 1/2 cup of the icing and sprinkled just a little of the white chocolate raspberry flavor stuff over it, then mixed it in. The result was nasty, nasty, nasty. Even my 8 year old daughter who loves all things artificially sweet, said it was gross. The mix ins might work better with regular buttercream, but I really can't see how they could ever taste good. It tasted like chemical goop. Oh well, I guess the old adage holds ... "if it looks too good to be true, it probably is."

p.s. I added about 1/2 tsp of Creme bouquet flavoring to the rest of my SMBC. Now that's good!

If you read about these mix ins they are specifically designed to be added to the cans of frosting. It may be fun to buy their frosting and add the mix in to see how it tastes. I am going to be testing some of the other flavors out with my regular buttercream recipe to expiriment. The mint was a hit. There was some orange one I bought to try out so thats next on my list.

I found the dh creations this week and decided to try it on some left over cupcakes.
I did use the icing that is sold with the packets and the white chocolate rasberry flavor.
My co workers were " the lucky ones" to try. One was completely disgusted another one ate it but wasn't impressed. Personally I thought it tasted way toooooo artificial ( which it is of course) . Not sure if I should try again with home made icing....

I got one of the orange creme packets the other day and made some orange cupcakes. I added it to my bc mixed with the can of theirs. It didn't have enough orange flavor to me so I added some more orange flavoring along with some coloring. It looks like it is koolaid in the packet. which also works just as well.
