What's The Worst That Could Happen To Her?

When I made my last cake for my moms birthday, I ran out of fondant and didn't feel like making more MMF so I called around to local bakeries looking for Satin Ice. Well I came across a local home bakery, but the thing is, we are in a state that doesn't allow home bakeries... She's advertised like everywhere, maybe even on here... She's on FB, has a website, etc... Something tells me she probably has no idea she even needs a license. What's the worst that could happen to her if they found her out?

I'm also a little irritated because I'm refraining from selling cakes because I don't have access to a kitchen other than my own, and here is this chick banking from working illegally.

Your first post and this is what the topic is? Why don't you call you health department and ask, cause how would we know. We don't know where you live. Personally, I think this is a troll post. If I am wrong, I apologize, but it's just too fishy and at this point I've had enough of "I was just asking. I didn't know it was a hot topic" threads on CC. Have a great day! I'm sure you'll still get some exciting responses!

The worst that could happen is that you turn her in.

I'm not a troll... I had an old account on here and couldn't remember my password because I hadn't been on here in a long time, I couldn't even remember the email address I had used so I just made a new account... And I also have found her, she is on here, I know exactly who she is, but I wouldn't do that to her by pointing out who it is. That's be mean.

And I also was asking because I didn't know if maybe I should say something to her, in case she really has no idea..

Well, I would hazard a guess that if she IS indeed on Cake Central, then she is well aware of the legalities required for operating a cake business from home in her state!

Its not like its never been brought up before, LOL!

Leave well enough alone, her business operating is not your risk, it is hers.

worry about yourself! if you worry so much about others it's just going to stunt you from doing what you do.

Turn her in, you're protecting your livelihood/future business/ the public from eating cockroach pieces.

Don't turn her in, focus on your own business/mind your own business/ karma will come for you in your sleep.

She'll only get information about how to become legal/she'll be shut down.

The IRS will come for her and seize her books/fine her/send her to break rocks on a highway in Siberia.

I can't believe people are happy for other people to break the law/wouldn't you turn in a drug dealer/she probably kicks puppies as well/won't somebody think of the children?

I can't believe people are so nasty that they would turn someone in for making cake/geez it's only cake/everybody go and make a cake.

There, now everyone can go about their day.

This is Classic! Thanks for the laugh, I needed that after hearing back from a potential client that has a "friend of a friend" to do the cake. icon_rolleyes.gif

Personally, I would tell her that it's illegal to work from home and that she should look into getting licensed, then let her take it from there. and yes, I have told people that they should be licensed if they're selling cakes. It's possible that she doesn't know.

Yeah, I don't want her to get in trouble lol. She's a fellow cake baker, it's not like I seriously believe she has cockroaches or anything of the sort and I wouldn't "turn her in", if I did anything I would just tell her because I'm unsure if she knows.

If she's been doing this for a while and she's on CC, I promise you - - she knows.

A woman in my neighborhood was visited by the HD and told to stop selling cakes without a license. She said okay but kept on selling. Made a custard filled wedding cake a few months later and half the guests got sick. There's a lien on her house now and she's angry with the HD for not forcing her to stop. She said it's their fault for letting her continue.

I think mcaulir has covered ALL possible angles on this one.

Seriously, can we just post a sticky that directs people to the her response so we can clear the forum of these posts that go flaming every other week icon_biggrin.gif

Okay...nothing to see here, folks. Go back to your cakes.

Maybe with one of the red "forget" rays used by the Men in Black?

FLASH!

What thread?

There was a thread?

Is somebody sewing something?

What is that burning smell coming from my kitchen?
