OK. I'm doing my own cake for this weekend. Here's the pic again. I've baked my tiers (14, 12, 10 and 8 ) and they're in the freezer. I'm making the flowers today. I've ordered the cakesafe because of travel time of 5 hours. I have my dummies ( 10, 8 and 6) and just wrapped them in ribbon. But.....as I was just working on all of it, i realized I have a problem. I planned to use the SPS system but my dummies underneath the 12, 10 and 8 inch layers will not allow the use of the sps as the leg placement on the sps plates is too widespread for the diameter of the dummy.If I attempted to use the sps, my sps legs would be on the outside of the dummy. Make sense? It's too late to order more dummies so can someone send me some tips on stacking this headache? LOL

If I understand your question correctly, you're looking at it all wrong. The SPS legs go into the cake, not into the dummies, so they wouldn't be on the outside of the dummies.

The top tier doesn't need anything, it sits (on its own board) on top of the dummy below. The dummy below sits on top of the separator plate with the legs going into the real cake below.

Not totally sure if I follow but I think I get what you're saying. Can you use the sps for the actual cake tiers. You don't really need any supports in the dummies do you? What are they made of? I would say place the sps legs in the actual cake tiers. That will support the dummy tier above it and the dummy should be solid enough to support the tier above it. I'd assemble the cake at the venue.

Thanks you guys, I guess I'm stressing here in these last few days. I had planned to use sps in the cake tiers and dummies. But I guess there's really no need to use the sps with the dummies. I'm just so stressed about the support of this cake and traveling.

icon_biggrin.gif I totally understand the stress. Support is very important so it's good you're planning ahead and thinking it through. I definately wouldn't travel with this cake fully stacked. I'd keep each tier separate with it's dummy stacked on each for travelling, then assemble on site.

Do you know that the cakesafe's center rod won't go through separator plates unless you predrill holes in the center?

That is a beautiful cake, I see why you are stressed!!! But yes, you will not need the support in the dummys. They are solid and support themselves. Good luck, and I hope you have some fun with it!!!!!

Yeah, I've drilled 2 inch holes in my sps plates. I was thinking I might take it partially assembled in the cakesafe and complete it on site. Now...as it gets closer, I'm getting even more nervous about it and may just assemble when I get there.

Thank you all for your support. This is the most worrisome cake I've ever done. Why I chose this one, I don't know LOL
