I have always used the same recipe for marshmallow fondant and now for some reason it is sticky. I cant smooth it with a fondant smoother. the smoother just sticks to the fondant. and it sticks to my hands bad when making animals when it used to not stick. I tried adding more powderd sugar and then it became crumbly.

what could possibly be the problem

Not sure why it's more sticky suddenly, I only use MMF and I never use the full 2lbs of powder sugar either cause it does it crumbly. Did you happen to move? Like to a new state where the weather is different? What I do when I'm ready to use the MMF is I knead the MMF in sections with a little bit of shortening to keep it from sticking to my hands, this is also when I mix in any colors. After the MMF is made I never use powder sugar, I always use cornstarch when I roll it out. HTH!

i have added too much water once, and it made the mmf sticky...that could be the problem. except i was able to fix it w/ adding more ps.

Has it been more humid recently? That will affect everything. Try using a little shortening or glycerin.

i live in texas where the weather goes crazy. we have not moved. that day in paticular there was a bad storm outside. and i was out of my normal flavoring that is thicker so i had to go with a thinner flavoring. maybe I will try one with the same flavoring but less water to see if that was it.
