Agbay Cake Leveler Question

I've been on the fence for some time about purchasing an Agbay. I'd like some feedback from Agbay owners on the flexibility of the blade. I"m looking at the one that cuts up to 20" wide, but I'm concerned that there will be too much play in the blade and it will allow "climbing" or "digging" while cutting that I experience with my current cheaper cutters. Do any of you experience this when using your Agbay? Thank you.

I have the regular size one (must be the 20") and it's awesome, no climbing or arching - that thing is tight as a drum. I always say, there's two things I would never give up and one is the AGBAY (the other is my KitchenAid mixer)

I also have the 20" Agbay and play in the blade is not something you need to worry about. Really, the only thing you should worry about is keeping your fingers out of the way. icon_smile.gif

There's no give...it cuts like a dream.

My only negative thought when I first got mine was that it wasn't as heavy as I imagined.
I assumed it would be unsteady because of that....I was wrong.

Also, they now sell a junior version, which is much better suited to the size cakes I make, so I wish it had been available at the time I ordered.

Agreed. This is a quality piece of equipment. Well engineered and sturdy.

I have the 20" one also, have had it for quite a few years (I have one of the first ones that were sold). I love it, and wouldn't give it up for anything! Like a PP said, however, keep your fingers out of the way of the blade. The blade cuts VERY well, especially skin! I know of two people that have had 'run-ins' with their Agbay's. One got her leg knicked in about three places when her's fell off the counter, the other cut her finger from the tip almost to the bone by cutting towards her hand rather than away from it.

The only time I had an issue with the blade climbing or digging was using it to level and tort a carrot cake that had walnuts and raisins in it. The cake was very moist and the blade pushed the walnuts and raisins instead of cutting through them. I have had no other problems with the blade other than that. I would buy another in a heartbeat if something happened to the one I own.

Thank you all for the positive responses. I also talked to the owner over at Agbay and she was soooo nice and helpful!! I think it's time to get a new cake leveler icon_smile.gif
