Need to ship fondant/gumpaste leaves...help!

I'm not sure what forum this would go in, but I have a question for you guys.

I told a friend that I would make her some ladybugs and leaves for her daughter's birthday cupcakes. Ladybugs shouldn't be a problem. I was thinking of doing a fondant/gumpaste mixture, as that is my usual method. The bugs will be about the length of a dime and the leaves maybe twice that.

All of a sudden, last night I was thinking..Crap, how the heck am I going to send leaves so they don't break??

I know places sell flowers and leaves online, so clearly, they can be shipped, but how? I've had all kinds of ideas running through my head, but I'd like to know what actually works.

When I was getting ready to go to NY to do my dd's wedding cake, I shipped everything up ahead of time. I packed the flowers/decorations just like jewelry - - in between layers of cotton. Then I wrapped in bubble wrap before boxing them. It worked like a charm and not one item arrived broken. HTH

Cotton like, cotton batting?

Actually I used cotton balls. The cotton kept the bubble wrap from softening up the fondant so everything stayed firm.
