Why, and what can I do when Royal Icing gets shiny? Adding more pwdr sugar dosen't help.
I would try a different recipe. If it's for cookies Sweetopia's blog has a great recipe. There is usually a bit of a sheen to the icing because of the egg whites.
Royal icing is mostly sugar, so it dulls when exposed to the moisture in the air. The ingredients in it have little to do with how shiny it dries.
To have it dry shinier, you need to place it under a goose neck lamp with a 60 watt bulb in it to dry.

Wait...you want it to shine or you don't want it to shine?
I like the shiney look. Toba Garrets glace dries pretty shiney. Pre packaged royal icing does not.
Sorry.. I don't want shine. After my Royal icing sits for a day or so, and usually when I add a little water to it at that point, it turns shinny, adding pwdr sugar dosn't get rid of it. Thanks!

So you mean that after it sits in the bowl, it gets shiny?
It's sort of separating a bit and it's the water coming to the top.
You need to beat it again.
That should take care of the shine because when you originally make it, my directions are to "beat until is loses it's shine".
