Hello CCers

I went to a cake competition yesterday sponsored by a non profit organization and the members of the organization were using Square Up to take their payments. Just wanted to know if any of my fellow CCers are using it and if so how do you like it? Do you find it beneficial? Have you had any issues technical or otherwise? Was it easy to acquire? I am considering using Square up for my business and just wanted to get opinions from my trusted cake community icon_biggrin.gif TIA

Yep, that's all I use. I have it uploaded on my phone and Ipad, I can take payments anywhere anytime, I can take a pic with it for the receipt, it requires a signature, gives me an option for e-mailing the receipt if needed, and it deposits money on my account the same day without me doing anything. Love it!!!

I LOVE using square! I think it is cool that i could take AmX and Discover in addition to the visa/mc usuals. Getting it is as easy as signing up on line and getting the reader for free in the mail. The only drawback i have found is that there isn't an easy look up for a forgotten password when you are on the ap. So you need to have that written down or locked in your mind when you are mobile.

A friend of mine who is a bails bonds person told me about it. I got mines about a week ago. Greatest way to do business if you don't have non stop business. No charges except when you swipe. My boss pays so much for his reader and it takes forever sometimes, and he is not mobile like me. He has to call the office to process someones payment.

Loving SQUARE

Hmm, I haven't encountered that yet, mine stays always logged in.

Mine stays logged in also.

My card reader is temperamental. I probably need a new one, but it is easy to just type in the information.

I have couple of readers, just because we have square on 3 devices (ipad, droid, and iphone) and indeed sometimes I have to swipe the card few times before it goes through. I think it depends on the condition of the strip on the back of the card not necessary the reader. I really don't like typing in the information because I think the fee is higher if I do that, rather than swipe, but it's also a nice feature when people pay over the phone. Forgot to mention that. I believe that google should be coming out with something similar pretty soon, so I'l be checking on that as well, but so far I absolutely love square, have been using it for almost a year now and never had any substantial issues, other than have to reswipe in case of bad swipe or connection issues of wifi in some areas.

Someone mentioned that Square Up does not have a customer service line. Is this true? If so how do you get assistance when needed?

I haven't had an issue with the Square, but when I needed help with something, I was able to email them and they responded super fast!!

To the OP: I originally used Paypal but switched to the Square and I LOVE IT!! I've had no issues with it.

I love the idea. Just looked into it and found these reviews (among others).

http://www.bbb.org/greater-san-francisco/new-business-reviews/credit-card-merchant-services/square-in-san-francisco-ca-370609

Biggest issue seems to be that it is difficult to reach customer service reps, if needed.

I'm new to the group....and very happy that I found you! I have used Square Up for almost 2 years now, and couldn't be happier! The continually make it's use easier. The fees are less than with other credit card companies...which means that we make more money! And the money goes in your act. very quickly. My husband is a songwriter, so I started using it for him. Since I had the app on my phone for concerts and conventions...all I had to do was get my own act. I use the same "square device"...same phone for the charges. Makes credit cards very easy to accept if you are making a delivery.
Try it....you will not be disappointed!

My concern is that, after researching, I found that Square is not certified PCI Compliant.

FullHouse, I am not familiar with the term certified PCI Compliant. Can you explain please?

Not sure what 'certified' means in this case. But being PCI compliant (Payment Card Interface??) is really just hoping for the best with what is available. Nothing wireless is great against hacking at this time. From what I learned in my network class, it's just a matter of how long it takes to break into the signal that makes one type of wireless security better than another. And as of last year, There was 'kind-of secure ', not-so secure' and 'just-give-me-all-your-info secure'

Yep, I use it too! I work out of my commercial kitchen and use my cell for business. No phone line, so Square was the way to go! Love it and no problems! And definitely the most cost effective option for me!
