Hey, I was right in the middle of making a quick dessert for me and hubby to have after dinner tonight and completely forgot to buy vegetable oil when I bought the cake mix.

It says 3 eggs, 1 cup water, and 1/3 cup oil. It doesn't state veggie oil, so would it be ok if I use the oil I have. It's one I bought from costco, and it's a nut/olive/grape oil mix.

I tried looking on google, but some say it will be fine, others say it alters the taste significantlly. Any tips?

And if I can't use that, would melted butter work?

I wouldn't use the olive oil in your mix, personally as I think it would alter the taste, but you can use melted butter in place of the oil in mixes. I have done it, and it makes a good cake.

Ty! Google always gives me mixed answers but I guess some people are going to have good luck with subsitution and others won't. My egg substitutions always fail horribly lol.

Thanks again icon_smile.gif

I always substitute applesauce. No one can tell a difference. I use 3 eggs, 1 cup water and 1/3 cup applesauce with a box mix. HTH
