Can you put whipped frosting under fondant? I would think that it would need to be a thin coat....I just wasn't sure if it would break down the fondant or if it would just slip off....any help would be appreciated.

I tried this with a whipped chocolate frosting once, and the fondant didn't really stay in place too well. It kept tearing and pulling down the sides of the cake. BUT I've only tried it once, and it was on one of the first cakes I decorated, so don't take my word as gospel! Just sharing the experience icon_smile.gif

Are you talking about canned whipped frosting? I've only used "creamy" although the taste of whipped is much better (assuming you don't want to make buttercream, which is waaaay yummier). If I use creamy frosting under fondant it seems to work fine - no slipping, then I use the tastier whipped frosting or other more interesting fillings in the cake. Good Luck!

Thanks for the responses. The birthday girl wanted whipped frosting but her grandmother and I told her buttercream under the fondant would be best. I was just checking in case I could give her exactly what she wanted. I guess I could do a filling of the whipped frosting that would give her some of what she wanted. icon_smile.gif

I know you already decided on BC, but for future reference you can use a whipped icing under fondant. Use the Whipped Cream Buttercream in the Most Saved Recipes section. Pop it in the fridge and then use a light touch when you put on the fondant. See this thread:

If you read through the whole thing you will learn that ceshell uses the recipe referred to above and also Rich's Bettercreme.
