NEED HELP PLEASE!!!! I am in the process of making a Harley Davidson Motorcycle cake and the customer would like me to make HIS motorcycle. The gas tank on it is black with bold orangish-yellow flames.

Is there any way for me to "paint" onto the black fondant with thinned buttercream or RI? I tried marbling the fondant and cutting out the flames to stick on the cake, and it just looks too cartoon-ish! I just dont like the look. Maybe I could thin the buttercream with corn syrup?

Has anyone tried "painting" onto black fondant with thinned icing??? I would have painted them on with gel coloring if I only would have waited to airbrush the whole thing black!!!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

I would use royal icing I think. I would have to be thick so not to run down the side of the 'tank' - but when it's still wet you could swirl with a toothpick and get a neat effect I think if you used orange/red/white. At least, in my head it would look good icon_biggrin.gif

Absolutely you can do that. You can also use thinned food coloring (thinned with vodka). The tie-dye cake in my gallery is sponge painted buttercream. If it works on buttercream, it will definitely work on fondant. Just make sure you use vodka so it evaporates. Mixing it with water will cause the fondant to get sticky.
