Cake Pops; I need some suggestions!! :)

I've made cake pops two ways; one with the crumbling of the baked cake along with the icing and mashing into a ball, and the other way by using a small cake pop baker.

I have the same problem with both methods. The stick ALWAYS pops through.

I've tried chocolate. I've tried candy melts. I let them set over night until the candy is hardened, and as soon as I hold them upright, the darn ball slides right down the stick and the stick pops out of the top of the ball. The candy lets are as hard as they can be on the stick, but when it pushes through the ball, I can see that it doesn't adhere to the cake itself at all.

Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks so much!

There is another thread same question and suggestions .
So may be some more tips there .
I put my pop or ball in the freezer for 10 mins after inserting the stick . Or refridgerator for 15 - 20 mins. Make sure you have plenty of. chocolate on.your stick when you insert it.

Are you dipping the stick in the candy melts before you stick them in the cake ball? I would guess this is the problem. Chill the cake balls for 10-15, dip the stick in chocolate and insert in cake ball, let that chill for 10-15 and dip! HTH!

Here to agree with the others icon_smile.gif Chill your ball, poke the stick in, take the stick out and fill the hole it leaves with candy melts/chocolate. Then push the stick back in and let it set up before decorating. I've never had any slip down the stick doing it like this because it ensures the entire stick, inside of the hole and the bottom of the cake ball around the stick is covered with chocolate in one swoop, and it all sets as a single piece icon_smile.gif

yes I agree sonetimes I push the stick in first . then dip and reinsert then chill.
You might check the Bakerella site .

Do you dip the stick in the chocolate/candy coating before sticking into ball? Are the balls chilled when you put the stick in?

This was not part of your post, but do you use a scratch recipe when making your cake pops in the cake pop maker? I bought one and tried it using a regular cake mix yesterday. Not so good! They looked more like flying saucers. They went in the trash, so I never got to the stick 'n dip.
