Hi all! I received this email earlier today and after some thought and a gut feeling telling me "no", I politely declined this order: My hubby doesn't think it's a scam, however, I have my doubts...

Thanks for the swift response to my request and your concern as well, i want you to know that am very grateful, i will not able to come to your store, I will like you to bake me 5 teir's of cake in same design in the picture attached to this email, concerning the cake stand's, i already booked it. the size is 16" 14" 12" 10" 8"

I want the cake to be ready for pick up time 11 o clock A.M 30th of March 2012. and the shipper will be coming to pick them up for delivery to my wedding reception and i don't want you to be worried about the safety delivery of the cake. Regarding the shipping, I have a shipping agent who will be taking good care of the delivery consignments. The shipping company will come for the pickup arrangement of the cake at your location for the pick up date and time. And as I have mention, you dont have anything to worry about on the shipping of the cake it will be well secured and in a good condition on arriving the location of my wedding reception, the shipper will be coming with there refrigerator Van for the pick up and it will be ship under the fragile shipping insurance scheme, a friend of mine has used them before for a shipping consignment of this such and they are well secured, reliable and dependable. So I want you to calculate for me what will be the total cost of the cake order including the decoration plus tax if included, and also I want you to add $970 for the cost of the pick up and the shipping, so once I have your reply for the total I will remit my credit card for you to charge for the total cost. so that you can have the order book right away.

And once you have the order in progress, I will provide you the shipper information, and how you will get the shipping fee to the shipper as to confirm the pickup arrangement. I will offer you an extra $50 for taking care of my order properly and for any less stress you will go through for completing the transaction for me due to my absence. So plus do calculate altogether the total cost of the cake + decoration and tax + $970 for shipping charges, including the $50 am offering you. Kindly provide me the grand total cost.

Note, I will be making a joint payment of your charges plus that of the other shipper $970. If you want me to pay any form of service charge relating to this tasks of you charging both payment with my credit card details, then do let me know what the expenses it will cost and if am able i will proceed.

Please, include both charges in an invoice to reflect the new development in the next mail, while i await your soonest response to proceed with payment.

Thanks

Please give me your opinion and if you would've declined it as well. Thank you!

I am fairly sure I have seen this scam mulitiple times. The broken english and asking you to pay the shipper.. they are using a stolen credit card and you will be out the cake and the money you pay to the shipper when the credit card declines payment. Just my 2 cents.

Yes, I would say definately a scam. My husband got hit with one of these worded almost the same regarding his auto repair business.... I would steer clear. about 10 years ago, we got hit for $2500. (not knowing it was a scam) and had federal postal authorities to deal with! Not fun.

Definately a scam. I wouldnt even reply back to them because they can put a "worm" into your computer and track what sites you go to, including banking information. Anytime someone wants to over pay you , you know its a scam and using a credit card like that is surely be stolen or atleast identity theft.
