I'm making my son a pirate ship for his birthday party on Saturday and I just finished the basic cover of the cake (the planking of the entire ship) and realized I hadn't really thought through how to do the railings.
I don't have any fancy equipment- i just do it by hand with the basic tools.
Any suggestions? I've seen a lot of people using various candies ind misc items to make their railings, but I try to stay away from that sort of thing unless the particular cake really calls for it.

never mind, i just figured it out- royal icing or chocolate- same thing I'm doing for the wheel
