Can anyone offer suggestions to me? I have carved cakes before (purses, dolls, etc), but since they want a more realistic crab rather than cartoonish, am wondering if this is best made with the body in cake, the legs modeling chocolate or ? Or would it be best to make the whole thing from RKT and gumpaste, then sit the crab on top of cake?

I need 30 servings and they want their initials "carved" on the top of the cake. I would love some advice and can't find very much online as far as tutorials. Thank you!

Hi,

When I read the post title, i immediately thought of carving the body out of cake and using RKTs for the legs etc. I mean, if they want thier "cake" to actually be the crab, then i would do it that way. Otherwise, making the crab and placing it ontop of a cake would work fine as well. it really depends on what yr customer wants.

I did this one and it was super-easy. The body was the cake, and the legs were fondant. http://www.acaketoremember.com/images/website_photos_11-29-11.jpg

That is fricken hilarious! I love how it is grabbing the bride & groom. That's how I would do it. Cake body and fondant arms.
