I cut all my cake boards by hand. After much frustration with X-acto blades not performing well and having even brand new blades making snags and tears in the foamboard, my husband helped me develop a way to sharpen the blades. I've never used an exacto for cutting boards, only a box cutter. I guess an exacto seems a little small to me to cut through thick foam core. My box cutter blades are scored and when they get dull I just snap off the dull part at the scoring.

Cool, thanks for the video. If you're cutting foam core, some people use the hot knifes you can buy at craft stores and others use dry wall cutters because they cut circles for you. So far the largest dry wall cutter I've seen does a 12 inch round but that's not bad. You can order dry wall cutters online and some you can find at home depot or lowe's

I use a hot knife. The exacto goes at a snail's pace. The hot knife is quick.

Also, you don't have to saw the hot knife so the edge is smooth.
