For my niece's 2nd birthday, I want to make a cake that looks like her toy rabbit. Rabbit looks very much like the one in this pic.

I have the perfect Pyrex bowl for the body but it's too small for the amount of servings I need so I was going to stack a cake baked in the bowl on top of a regular 7" layer cake.

How would I do this? Would I need a cake board above the bottom cake? Dowels? Straws? The width of the bowl is a touch smaller than 7" but I want the body to look cohesive so may have to shape the 7" cake once stacked.

Also, I have a small Pyrex bowl I was thinking of baking the head in (then carving it to shape). Best way to attach this?

Thanks!
LL

I would actually bake the cake in round pans a bit larger than you want the bunny to be and then stack and carve.

If you decide to go with the bowls, etc, I always but a cake board every 4 inches inside the cake with a few supports underneath.

I have a tutorial on carving a figure so that might help you with the internal structure.,,,

How many additional servings do you need? That is cake would be a lot of work for me personally. I would make up servings with cupcakes and do little bunny butts sticking out of the cupcakes from the Hello Cupcake book. I can find a pic of the bunny butts if you're interested.

If you're going to have to transport or stressed about supporting the bunny on top, cupcakes just seem easier to meicon_smile.gif

Thought I'd post a pic of the finished cake with the inspiration. I went with my original plan of stacking a cake baked in a Pyrex bowl on top of a 7" round cake. There was also a tail which was a big cake ball covered in buttercream (piped with a closed star tip).

I torted both cakes (right word?) and then stacked them, layering with buttercream and jam/jelly. As the bottom cake was wider then the top cake, I carved away the excess. Once the body was covered in sugarpaste, I inserted 2 skewers vertically into the body so the head was stabilised.

For my first character cake, I'm quite pleased icon_smile.gif

Also, this was my first attempt at making buttercream with a small shortening and the rest butter and I really liked it.

It's actually quite cute as your first character cake. How tall was the body?
